Are Wiki's Worth It?

We've started learning about Wiki's in class. They seem pretty user friendly to me, but what can I say....I'm a bit of an N-gener. To me is seems like building a website, with appropriate links, etc. I think that a Wiki would be a lot easier to implement into my classroom, as opposed to a blog. My kids could help construct a class Wiki on a unit of study and their personal work could be linked on different pages. I'm not quite sure how the privacy issues would work and I think you could run into the same trouble with the comments that we were worried about with blogs. I wonder if there is a way to delete people's comments? I also wonder if there are any other creative ideas out there for using a Wiki?

  1. I thought that maybe you could use a wiki as a story starter. Then other students could add their ideas, edit the information, etc. This would be a great way to get all students involved and what a great story you could have!

  2. I'm a digital immigrant so this Wiki stuff is a little more confusing to me. I do see your connection to Wiki's and creating websites. It seems like it's a lot like our NVU.

I like your idea of linking student work to a unit of study! I would also be interested to know if comments could be deleted.
